Students from grades Kindergarten through sixth grade participated in a ceremony to honor the more than 60 veterans and family members in attendance from their community today. The ceremony began with a presentation of colors by the Ridgeview High School NJROTC. Command Sergeant Major Brian Kendrick of the U.S. Army delivered the president’s proclamation followed by an inspiring performance of the Star Spangled Banner by MHS senior and CHE alumnus Taylor Benton. Members of the Clay Hill Elementary Student Council presented each represented veteran with handmade gifts from various classes and art clubs. Sixth grade student Madison Fountain read a moving original essay about freedom followed by a reading of Cheryl Dyson’s Veterans Day by Anniston Leach. The ceremony ended with a medley of patriotic songs as directed by music teacher Ben Johns. The students sang God Bless America, This is Still the Land of the Free, The Armed Forces Medley, and closed with an emotional rendition of Thank You Soldier.
