Clay Hill students are enjoying a dramatic reading of the classic, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. Clay Hill's 11th annual Listening Theater was created by the Resource Team with the help of a very talented volunteer. The Media Center has been transformed into the frozen land of Narnia to set the mood for the story. Each child in the 3rd-6th grade has a listening packet that contains questions and related art activities. This encourages the students to be actively engaged as they hear a portion of the story each day. We will follow up the listening portion of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe with a presentation of the live action movie, Narnia. This viewing helps the students understand that movies made from books do not always match the book version. We’ve all thought to ourselves at times that the book was better than the movie. This comparison activity teaches the students that as they read, their imagination can create amazing images of the story. Sometimes what they imagine is better than the movie, too! In addition, students are invited to participate in a parent involvement activity. This year students may choose to create a scene from the story together with their family. Typically about 60-70 students participate in this enrichment activity each year. Prizes are awarded for Best All Around, Most Creative and Most Unusual. All students receive a participation reward. Our annual listening theater is always anticipated and enjoyed by the students at Clay Hill.
During the week of May 2, 2016 – May 6, 2016 all elementary schools in Clay County will be registering kindergarten students for the 2016-2017 school year. To enter kindergarten, a child must be five (5) years of age on or before September 1, 2016, verified by a registered birth certificate (Florida Statute 1003.21.) Clay County policy has no provision for early admission to kindergarten.
Florida’s Compulsory Immunization Law requires that, prior to entry, attendance or transfer; all children comply with the state adopted immunization schedule (Florida Statute 1003.22). For the 2016-2017 school year, DH Form 680 (or Religious Exemption DH Form 681) is the only acceptable immunization certificate for admittance to a public or non-public school, grades Pre-K through 12. The Form 680 can be obtained from your doctor or the Clay County Health Department. The Form 681 can be obtained from the Clay County Health Department.
A child may be certified as fully immunized if he/she has completed, prior to entry, the following vaccinations:
· 4 or 5 doses of Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (DtaP) vaccine
· 2 or 3 doses of Hepatitis B (Hep B) vaccine—requires 6 months to complete
· 3, 4 or 5 doses of Polio vaccine *
· 2 doses of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine
· 2 doses of varicella vaccine †
* If fourth dose of vaccine is administered prior to fourth birthday, a fifth dose of polio vaccine is required for kindergarten entry only.
† Varicella vaccine is not required if varicella disease is documented by health care provider
A school physical examination performed within one year prior to the first day of enrollment is also a required requirement.
In addition to health documentation and proof of date of birth, you will need multiple proofs of residency. Some items required for proof of residency (3 - 4 required) are driver’s license/Florida i.d. with current address, current utility bills, mortgage or rental agreement, and insurance, credit card or bank statements. A complete list of registration requirements is available on the Parent page of our District website at: http://www.oneclay.net/parents.html
Registration is not considered complete without ALL required documents.
Parents may register their children at any time during the week of May 2, 2016 – May 6, 2016; this early registration will enable all involved to do a better job in planning for the next school year. We encourage parents to take advantage of this early registration opportunity.
Wilkinson Junior High will have an orientation for 6th grade students entering 7th grade next year on Tuesday, February 23rd from 6 to 7 pm. in the school cafeteria. The orientation will be a great opportunity to ask questions and get information about your child's next school. Please plan to attend!
Even with increasingly rigorous standards and complicated new assessments the teachers, students, and families worked hard and proved to the state that CHE could maintain the school grade earned in 13-14 of C. The state recently released the school grades for 14-15 and CHE remained a C. Areas of needed improvement have been identified all teachers and staff are preparing for another round of FSA. We are confident that students are well prepared.
The 2015-2016 Title I Parent Survey is now open. The survey will be available online through May 31, 2016. This survey is open to all parent/guardians of children currently attending a SDCC Title I School. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child's school or the District office at 904-529-4923.

Literacy Week was a huge success! CHE haD\d an author visit from Patsy Smith Roberts who entertained all of our students K-6 with stories of her expeditions to Africa! She read her new book, Billy Ray: The Adventures of a Vervet Monkey. We wore our vocabulary words on Wednesday and our new beautiful collaborative classroom furniture arrived! On Thursday 6th-grade students and readers of Dead City participated in a Google Hangout with James Ponti (the author of the Dead City series). A Google Hangout is a free video chat service that enables one-on-one chats and group chats with up to ten people at a time. It can also be used to share documents, scratchpads, images, and YouTube videos. Friday we judged the artistic contributions of our students for the Door Decorating Contest. Congratulations to our winners Mrs. Fitcher's class and Ms. Pike's class!
